About the City Of Pleasant Hill, California
Pleasant Hill is a city in Contra Costa County, California, located in the San Francisco Bay Area's East Bay. At the time of the 2020 census, the population was 34,613. It was established in 1961. College Park High School, Diablo Valley College, the Contra Costa County Library system's Pleasant Hill Library, and the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District are all located in Pleasant Hill.
Former agricultural land was subdivided for homes in the 1920s, and the region began to develop. Monument Boulevard was named after the Veterans Memorial Monument, which was dedicated on December 11, 1927, to honor World War I soldiers. One black soldier and three white troops are shown on the monument. It stands 45 feet (14 meters) tall, weighs 150 tons, and is made of molded concrete. To make space for future highway construction, the monument was moved to its current location at Boyd Road and Contra Costa Boulevard in 1954. The area was largely developed in the years following WWII, but it did not have a post office until 1948. In 1961, the city was incorporated.
