Established in 1956, Pleasant Oaks was California's 50th state park. It covers 600 acres, and is a stopover for birds along the Pacific Flyway.

Pleasant Oaks offers a youth group camping area as well as over 200 family camping sites. The swimming pool complex in the park is open from May until September depending on weather conditions. There are over 100 miles of trails in the park, most of them open to mountain biking. Some trails are open to horses and off-road motorbikes, while others are hiking-only.

The 200 family campsites at Pleasant Oaks are situated along two horseshoe-shaped loops. The sites consist of a smooth gravel or paved area, approximately 15 feet by 30 feet, with parking directly outside of the site. Each site is equipped with a table and barbecue grill.

Highlights of recreational activities includes: camping, swimming pool complex, golf course within 3 miles (5 km), fishing on Lake Chabot, boating on Castro Valley Lake, hayrides in Autumn and Spring, hiking trails throughout park lands with scenic views.

This location is likely to provide more privacy than other parks in the area, and it's a good alternative to Pleasant Hill Park if you're looking for a more laid-back atmosphere. It's a popular location for outdoor activities like business picnics and birthday parties, and it has a peaceful picnic area.

Pleasant Oaks Park (11 acres) has 5 fully renovated softball fields, new full-size soccer fields, and shaded dugouts with bullpens on each side. There are also three expanded batting cages and a pre-school playground for children aged two to five years old on the premises. There are also benches and drinking fountains.

There is plenty of grassy space for dogs to run around on, as well as benches for owners to sit on. There is a small fenced area for dogs under 25 pounds to play safely, as well as a larger fenced area for large dogs. The park has some shade and a small parking lot attached to it. Trails wind down the hills that surround the park, leading to a breathtaking view of Mt. Diablo.

There are several playground structures, a sandpit, a baseball field, a basketball court, a bowling ball court, and a fenced-in area for toddlers, making it ideal for bringing children or playing sports. Many of the park's open spaces are surrounded by magnificent redwood trees, which provide plenty of shade.

4 Benefits Of Taking Your Children To The Park

  • Social Skills: Being around other children in a park or other outdoor setting allows children to practice their social skills. They must wait their turn to use the slide or swing, which teaches them a valuable lesson in sharing. Being around other kids also teaches them how to play in a group setting.

  • Vitamin D: As someone who has been diagnosed with a Vitamin D deficiency, I understand how important it is for children to be exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies, and many doctors attribute it to children being cooped up indoors.

  • Mental Health: As adults, it's difficult to recognize how stressful it is to be a child. The demands of school, parents, and friends can be overwhelming for young children. A trip to the park or outside is an excellent way for your child to expend some of their pent-up energy and reduce their stress levels.

  • Physical Fitness: Over the last 20 years, childhood obesity rates have more than doubled. One of the simplest ways to combat this epidemic is to get children outside. Allowing children to run freely, jump, and climb is an excellent way for them to get the exercise they require to stay healthy.
