How Do You Prepare for a Professional Massage?
When you book a professional massage, the therapist will usually ask you about your health history and any specific areas that you would like them to focus on. It is important to be as honest and forthcoming as possible during this conversation, as it will help the therapist to tailor the message to your individual needs.
There are a few things that you can do to prepare for your message, both before and on the day of your appointment.
Stay hydrated
When you are well-hydrated before receiving a massage, it will help eliminate toxins that are released into your body during treatment. Drinking water or herbal teas can be an excellent method for staying hydrated and avoiding regular tea, coffee & alcohol intake which may stimulate the nervous system instead of helping with relaxation as desired!
Eat Lightly
Eating before a massage seems like an obvious way to avoid feeling hungry during and after your session, but some people find that their stomach noise makes eating difficult. If you’re one of those folks who can't seem motivated by anything less than food or liquid in its purest form then try taking along something easy-to-digest such as fruit which will help keep any budding hunger pains at bay!
Take A Hot Shower
If you want to feel refreshed, then there’s nothing better than a massage. Not only will it help release stress and tension from your muscles but also give them some much-needed attention with intense pressure points being worked on by an expert therapist! Afterward, take another shower so that all of those natural oils can be washed off before bedtime or work time tomorrow morning - don't forget about using hot water when getting out because this relaxes tense areas even more while waking up sleepy ones at the same time!
Wear Comfortable Clothing
You will be asked to remove all clothing, but you can keep your underwear on if you feel more comfortable. It is important that you feel comfortable and relaxed during the massage, so wear something that you would normally lounge around in. The therapist will use a sheet or towel to cover your body, so there is no need to worry about being completely exposed.
Arrive Early
If this is your first massage, you may want to arrive 10-15 minutes early so that you can fill out a health history form and have a brief consultation with the therapist. This will give them a chance to understand your health background and what you are hoping to achieve from the massage. If you are running late, please call the spa so that they can adjust your treatment time accordingly.
Communicate Your Needs
Your therapist will review the health questionnaire with you and ask further questions if necessary. This is a great opportunity to let them know about any preferences or needs that may be relevant, such as what type of pressure feels best for one party over another; whether certain areas should receive more attention than others because it's important enough where time seems less imperative (i e: feet). The better we communicate our wants in advance-the quicker they can adjust their care accordingly!
Relax And Enjoy
During your treatment, concentrate on your breathing, making sure to take long, deep breaths. This will help to reduce stress and chase away negative thoughts. Almost no effort is needed from you. Your therapist will know very well how to lift your arm or your head; your help is not required!
Even when the massage is underway, let your therapist know your preferences or if you feel uncomfortable. By leaving nothing to chance, you’ll get the maximum benefits from your massage. Too hot, too cold; more or less pressure; bright or low lighting; loud or low music; gel or oil; with or without essential oils… It’s your message – you decide.
Whether you’re preparing for a massage therapist to work on your tension headaches, chronic pain, or just to help you relax and feel better overall, there are some things you can do ahead of time to make the most of your session. We hope these tips have been helpful and that you’ll give us a call today to book your appointment!
